Fill Me In! Before, After & About Fillers.

What are dermal fillers and why are they so popular?

Dermal fillers are used for replacing volume loss and reducing facial wrinkles. Fillers can be used to plump the skin, bring symmetry and to help

compliment your individual facial structure. While they are most popularly used in the forehead, temples, lips, jaw, cheeks and frown lines, dermal filler can also be utilized around the nose, cheekbones and hands.

Unlike makeup, fillers protect your look while increasing the quality of your skin. If you are considering dermal fillers, we recommend considering a care-plan that best suits your routine.

Before, during and after-care increases the effectiveness of your dermal filler, ensures longevity and refines your result to best maintain your look.

If you are considering dermal fillers or have had them in the past, it is always best to inquire with your technician about any instructions or important information they may have for best results. Skin type, age and other variables can play an important role in your suggested preparation or after-care routine. To increase the quality of your dermal fillers, we have outlined the leading recommendations below.

Care is essential for your ideal results and healing process, but even better to prolong the effects of your filler.

For optimal results before dermal fillers, we suggest these steps:

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your fillers

  • Supplements such as Arnica can help minimize swelling and bruising, but do avoid over-the-counter pain medications for one week before fillers (ibuprofen, Aleve, etc.) These can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid using topical treatments or any anti-aging products, such as retinoids and retinol, for 72 hours before fillers

  • Make sure to stay well hydrated, particularly with hyaluronic acid fillers

  • Sleep on your back, which prevents putting pressure on treated areas

  • Skip your workout for the 24 hours following your fillers

For optimal results after the first 24 hours, we suggest these steps:

  • Wear sunscreen! Unprotected sun exposure can cause skin damage, including dynamic wrinkles, brown spots, and skin discoloration. So, it’s vital to wear SPF anytime you go outdoors to protect your final results

  • Control stress. When you’re stressed your body releases cortisol, which contributes to aging and can interfere with the way your body metabolizes your fillers. Stress reduction techniques to help preserve your dermal injections can include yoga, deep breathing, meditation, or any other activities that calm you

  • Avoid extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, which helps control redness and swelling

Botox with my fillers?

Botulinum neurotoxin is a highly potent neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. It is most commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It reduces the formation of lines by weakening the muscles in those areas, but can also be used to slim facial structures - commonly used in the masseter muscle, to slim the jawline. In addition to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, it can also help treat medical issues that include disorders related to the nervous and muscular systems.

In short, Botox and fillers treat different types of lines. Botox prevents the flexing of muscles that cause wrinkling, while dermal fillers fill in the type of wrinkles that come from a loss of collagen, volume and elasticity.

Because Botox and fillers are different substances designed for different uses, they can be combined in one treatment. For instance, someone may use Botox to correct lines between the eyes and a filler to correct smile lines around the mouth.

Once injected, botox can take effect within 24-72 hours, although in rare cases it can reach up five days.
