My Cool Journey | CoolSculpting® | Andrea

Meet Andrea, married, mother of 3. Andrea strives to be the best version of herself. She takes us along her journey with CoolSculpting documenting her experience from her initial consultation on day 1, all the way through to day 109, revealing her CoolSculpting results. Follow Andrea as CoolSculpting takes her further. #MyCoolJourney Uses The CoolSculpting® procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental (under the chin) and submandibular (under the jawline) areas, thigh, abdomen and flank, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (also known as banana roll) and upper arm. It is also FDA-cleared to affect the appearance of lax tissue with submental area treatments. The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a treatment for weight loss. Important Safety Information The CoolSculpting® procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions including recent surgery, pre-existing hernia, and any known sensitivities or allergies. During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity, and sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental or submandibular area treatment. Rare side effects may also occur. CoolSculpting® may cause a visible enlargement in the treated area which may develop two to five months after treatment and requires surgical intervention for correction. Please see full Important Safety Information at

What should I expect?

On your first visit you will meet with a CoolSculpting® clinician during a one-on-one consultation. This person will be a medical professional who has specialized training in the CoolSculpting® procedure.

Your CoolSculpting clinician will take the time to discuss a holistic approach to your goals for reshaping your body. Together, you’ll look at your whole body from different angles—and then focus on specific areas where you want to eliminate fat.

During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the targeted area.

The CoolSculpting applicator delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat. During your procedure, feel free to read, take advantage of our TV, receive other services, or even take a nap.

How does it work?

Years ago, scientists at Harvard University observed that some children who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks. The scientists—Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD—realized that the popsicles were freezing and eliminating

small pockets of fat cells. The idea that cold can target fat cells—without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue—was the insight behind Cryolipolysis®, the proven science on which the CoolSculpting procedure is based.

The CoolSculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are then frozen. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.

Fat cells that are frozen during the CoolSculpting® procedure gradually die off and leave the body through the body’s natural elimination process. That’s why the results are long-term. The fat is gone for good!

*Untreated areas will have no change in fat cell distribution.

How cold is CoolSculpting®, does it hurt?

As the name suggests, the CoolSculpting® procedure can be a little chilly. Controlled cooling is delivered through the applicator to freeze the targeted fat. Though you may feel intense cold initially, this feeling usually subsides within 5 to 10 minutes as the area numbs. Because most applicators use a vacuum to draw fatty tissue into the applicator cup, you may also feel some pulling, tugging, and/or mild pinching.

After you and your technician select the area(s) to be treated. A gel pad and applicator are applied to the targeted area. Vacuum applicators draw the tissue into the applicator cup. Applicators are secured to the treatment area. All applicators deliver controlled cooling to the targeted fat.

Is there downtime?

The CoolSculpting® procedure is completely non-surgical, which makes returning to normal activities afterward a typically easy process. Oftentimes, patients even return to work after their CoolSculpting treatment is over.
