What is IASTM?

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) also known as HawkGrips is an advanced form of myofascial mobilization — similar to deep-tissue massage. It is primarily used to detect and release scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions.

Clinicians trained in this technique can effectively locate adhesions and restrictions in the soft tissue through the vibrations or undulations that HawkGrips instruments provide. Once these areas have been identified, clinicians may then utilize our instruments to treat you and help to restore optimal function.

HawkGrips are considered the gold standard of our industry, and quality instruments genuinely matter when it comes to IASTM treatments. Many practitioners in this field use inferior instruments including cheap plastic tools. Serious professionals demand the best, and you should too.

What can I expect from my treatment?

A typical HawkGrips treatment session is divided into stages.

Your practitioner will start by warming up the tissue to prepare for treatment. Then they will apply HawkGrips emollient to your treatment area to lubricate the skin, and provide for a smooth glide of the instruments. This is where they’ll begin the HawkGrips treatment using the techniques that they have developed through their extensive HawkGrips educational training courses. The last step, they’ll typically finish-off with gentle motion and exercise, and may gently stretch the area to promote proper tissue movement.

To avoid overworking the tissue, HawkGrips Therapy is performed for a very short time period—usually less than 10 minutes per body part. Some tenderness or redness in the area after treatment is common, and generally fades quickly.

Most people enjoy the treatment, and begin to feel positive results, including increased range of movement and decreased pain typically after three to five treatments.

Am I candidate?

Anyone can be treated! HawkGrips are an excellent modality not only for treating injuries and chronic conditions, but also for preventive maintenance, recovery after a workout, and increasing range of motion in healthy patients.

They are safe for use with the general population, as well as many pediatric and geriatric patients. Your doctor or clinician can tell you if HawkGrips IASTM Therapy would be an appropriate choice for you as an individual.
